SYRIA - Talks End With No Clear Progress

Ah, yes, the same old delay tactics by a dictatorship.  And the killing goes on, and  on, and on....

The West (including the U.S.) is allowing this to continue.  I sadly believe that we are living if fantasyland if we continue to believe in diplomacy as a solution to this problem.

"Syria talks end without clear progress or assurance of an encore" (Part-1) PBS Newshour 1/31/2014

SUMMARY:  Despite measured optimism for progress from the UN envoy, neither sides in the Syrian conflict have budged from their positions during nine days of peace talks in Switzerland, with the government delegation unwilling to commit to more talks.  Meanwhile, Jeffrey Brown reports, the situation on the ground may only be getting worse.

"Who’s to blame for failed Syrian peace talks, and what’s next?" (Part-2) PBS Newshour 1/31/2014

SUMMARY:  Andrew Tabler of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and Joshua Landis of the University of Oklahoma join Jeffrey Brown to discuss their reactions to the first round of Syrian peace talks, the delays for the Assad regime in destroying chemical weapons and what’s next for both diplomacy and the war.
