ECONOMY - Government Workers

"How Many Workers in the United States are Employed By the Federal, State, or Local Government?" Rightardia 8/8/2010

How many workers in the United States are employed by the federal, state, or local government? According to a new Gallup poll 17 percent of workers.

Washington, DC has the highest number of government workers with 38 percent. The vast state of Alaska came in second with government workers making up 31 percent of the state’s workforce.

Ohio has the least amount of government workers at 12 percent.

The top federal employer is the U.S. Postal Service with 23 percent of government jobs. The states with the highest number of state workers are Alaska, Hawaii, and South Carolina, each with 11 percent.

According to Gallup most state and local government jobs are in the single digits. The lowest number of government workers is concentrated in the Midwestern states.

The conservatives will undoubtedly suggest these numbers are too high, but without a reference to other countries, it would be hard to make such a call. Rightardia would expect these number are modest compared to other developed nations.

Rightardia also wonders how Sarah Palin will explain that nearly one in three workers in Alaska works for the government?

Something to think about when you complain about Federal Income Tax. Where do you think these American workers get their paycheck?
