RAY SUAREZ (Newshour): In Mexico and elsewhere in Latin America, drug lords have been paraded to prisons in recent years. And police have stepped up arrests and seizures of illegal drugs, most bound for the large and wealthy U.S. drug market.

Still, drug violence has steadily increased, giving rise to calls for legalization of small quantities of marijuana. Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos addressed the topic this week, as he prepared to host the Summit of the Americas this weekend.

Unprecedented Latin American opposition to U.S. sanctions on communist Cuba left President Barack Obama isolated at the Summit of the Americas on Sunday and illustrated Washington's waning influence in the region.

COMMENT: Then there's the (IMHO) ridiculous hype on the Secret Service Agent's misbehavior. The agents are people, and we do sometimes not behave in the proper manner. So what? The Secret Service did the correct thing in replacing the team BEFORE President Obama arrived.
