AMERICA - Our Aging Water Systems

"A Journey to America's Smelly Depths to Confront Our Aging Water Systems" PBS Newshour 1/3/2013

Excerpt

SUMMARY: As clean water regulations become tougher and sewer systems and water treatment plants become outdated, cities are struggling to stay compliant and safe. Science correspondent Miles O'Brien goes underground to discover the many ways America's sewer systems could be revamped to conserve water and save money.

COMMENT: In the video 'deferring' repairs is mentioned. This is an ongoing problem not only in water systems but in our nation's infrastructure as a whole. We (citizens and government) keep putting upkeep of infrastructure 'till mañana, the usual excuse is money. Problem, repair is going to cost MORE in the future, more than if we had plans to *constantly* update infrastructure over several years (be pro-active) rather than wait until something breaks.

Note that this attitude of wait 'till mañana is what killed our U.S. steel industry and almost killed our auto industry, not replacing aging manufacturing equipment on a regular bases.
